The Washington Redskins make a few more roster signings to future contracts. The following players were signed to futures contracts:
DL Phil Taylor
LB Khairi Fortt
LB Pete Robertson
Taylor is a former first round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Baylor. He spent four season with the Cleveland Browns. Taylor suffered a knee injury in 2015 and missed that season and placed on injured reserve by Denver. He was eventually released. You’ve heard his name before. Taylor was brought in this season in Week 6 for a workout, but was not signed.
Fortt was a fourth round pick in 2014 but suffered an injury and was waived. Robertson was an undrafted rookie last season.
In perhaps more important news, LB Junior Galette stated he is returning to the Redskins on a one-year deal.
“Technically I’m a free agent, but in my mind, like I said last year, I’m set to come back,” Galette said. “I already spoke to [General Manager] Scot [McCloughan], and we already have plans to just sign me back on a one-year deal. I told him I don’t care about no money right now. I could care less. I made tons of money in the NFL, and I set myself up to be good for life. I’m not worried about the money.
“It’s about my pride right now and to show myself that I can come back from back-to-back Achilles’ injuries. I feel like it would be one for the history books the way I come back if I could come back and take the league by storm and proceed and play for another five years in my prime.”
If the Redskins can get a healthy Galette, it would be a big part of an improvement in the pass rush. The Redskins have been waiting for his impact pass rushing skills for two season. Signed in 2015, Galette tore his Achilles and did not play. Set to return last season, Galette tore his Achilles again during training camp.
