The banged up interior of the Washington Redskins offensive line got some reinforcements today, as the Redskins signed veteran Center John Sullivan. Center quickly became a need during the Redskins 29-27 win over the Giants. Kory Litchensteiger, who was already bothered by back issues, injured his calf and was forced from the game.
Although Litchensteiger’s calf injury is said to be a ‘moderate’ injury, the Redskins have placed Litchensteiger on the Injured Reserve. Sullivan spent eight seasons with Minnesota and was released this off-season after attempts to initiate a trade failed. He started for Minnesota from 2009 to 2014 and only missed three games during that period. Sullivan will provide solid veteran presence in a damaged interior offensive line. In fact, many Redskins fans were hopeful that the Redskins would have attempted to acquire Sullivan during the off-season. Given the lackluster play on the interior, Sullivan actually could look like an upgrade.
G Spencer Long took over for Litch during Sunday’s game. However, starting LG Shaun Lauvao was also injured during the game on Sunday. An MRI on Lauvao did not reveal a significant injury.
