Earlier Monday the Washington Redskins brought in five players for workouts, including former Skins’ NT Terrance Knighton and former Browns NT Phil Taylor. However, neither was signed by the team.
Instead, Washington signed a relative unknown — Joey Mbu — to the practice squad. Mbu is a 23-year-old defensive tackle who played his college ball at the University of Houston and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015.
Mbu was cut by the Falcons on September 5, 2015 and then signed to the practice squad on September 8, 2015. He was promoted to the active roster in December and appeared in two games, accounting for one solo tackle and three assists.
However, on September 3, 2016, the Falcons released Mbu on their last round of cuts. Once again, the Falcons signed him to their practice squad the next day, but he was cut again two days after that.
