The Washington Redskins have activated TE Derek Carrier from the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP). Carrier tore knee ligaments last season and has not played at all this season.
This week was the first week Carrier actively participated in practice. Additionally, the timing of the move comes down to the NFL calendar. The Redskins had 21 days to make a decision on Carrier or keep him placed not he PUP for the remainder of the season. The timing of the move also coincides with the loss of TE Niles Paul, who was placed on the injured reserve with a should injury.
To make room for Carrier, the Redskins waived S DeShaun Phillips. Phillips lost his job in the secondary because of injury. However, he was a healthy scratch the past two weeks and was rather unimpressive when he was in the line up.
