The Washington Nationals have finally promoted OF Michael Taylor to Syracuse (AAA). Taylor has had an absolute monster season at Harrisburg (AAA) and looking more and more like the Nationals future center fielder. In his first two games at AAA, Taylor is 3 for 5 at the plate with two doubles, a run scored, and a run driven in. In 98 games at Harrisburg, Taylor batted .313 with 17 doubles, 2 triples, and 22 home runs. He crossed the plate 74 times and knocked in 61 runs. He finished in Harrisburg with a .539 slugging percentage and a .398 on base percentage.
In terms of league leaders, here is where Taylor stands in the AA Eastern League: He is tied for 5th in batting average (.313), second int he league in runs (74), third in home runs (22), 8th in RBI (61), 2nd in total bases (202), 5th in walks (50), 4th in stolen bases (34), 4th in on base percentage (.398), and 2nd in slugging (539).
In Washington, the Nats recalled cather Sandy Leon yesterday. Leon will cover for Nats starting catcher Wilson Ramos, who is absent due to the birth of his first child. This will be Leon’s third stint with Washington this season. The switch-hitting catcher is batting .212 with 118 at bats in 34 games with Syracuse this season. He has ight doubles, two home runs and eleven RBI.
